Henry Fonvielle Appointed President of The Rappaport Companies

McLean, VA – Gary Rappaport, CEO and founder of The Rappaport Companies is pleased to announce the appointment of Henry Fonvielle as President of the firm.

“Henry has brought amazing growth to The Rappaport Companies since he joined us six years ago,” says Rappaport. “As a result, we made the decision to expand his role in the executive team.” Under Fonvielle’s leadership as Executive Vice President, The Rappaport Companies increased its leasing and management portfolio from 35 to 132 properties, while still maintaining close-knit relationships within the firm and with clients, and preserving the company’s boutique-style of service. Since 2006, an additional 45 employees have joined The Rappaport Companies, with the total number of staff growing from 55 to 100. In that time, The Rappaport Companies also increased its services, adding brokerage, management of construction, receivership, and consulting to its roster.

The Rappaport Companies, based in McLean, Virginia, has a leasing and management portfolio of approximately 11 million square feet of retail space in shopping centers and mixed-use buildings. The Rappaport Companies provides leasing, tenant representation, management and development services for shopping centers and ground-floor retail in mixed-use properties throughout Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Rappaport’s clients include some of the Washington, D.C. area’s most prominent landlords, asset managers, commercial real estate companies, financial institutions and retailers. The Rappaport Companies was established in 1984 by Gary D. Rappaport, CEO.

Henry Fonvielle, President of The Rappaport Companies, oversees leasing of all shopping centers in the Rappaport portfolio and third-party brokerage, which includes Landlord and Tenant representation. He is also involved with design and construction of new shopping centers, expansions and renovations of existing centers, as well as the planning of mixed-use projects. Fonvielle has more than 20 years experience in commercial real estate with many different retail types, including urban, mixed-use, neighborhood, lifestyle and power centers. Projects completed under Fonvielle’s direction include: Crystal City Redevelopment, Fairfax Square Luxury Retail, and Potomac Yard Center, the largest power center inside the Capital Beltway. Prior to The Rappaport Companies, he served at Vornado/ Charles E. Smith Commercial Realty as Senior Vice President and Head of the Retail Division. He holds a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation and is active in the International Council of Shopping Centers and Urban Land Institute (ULI). In addition, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Children’s National Medical Center Foundation, the Washington Tennis and Education Foundation and the Washington, D.C. Economic Partnership.

Gary D. Rappaport, CEO, founded The Rappaport Companies in 1984 with the purchase of his first shopping center, Milford Mill in Baltimore, MD, with 14 limited partners. A former Chairman and Trustee of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), Rappaport is the only Chairman to date to hold all four ICSC designations, SCSM, SCMD, SCLS and SCDP. He serves on ICSC’s Executive, Nominating, Government Relations, Long Range Planning and PAC committees and continues to lobby at the state and federal government levels on many issues important to the shopping center industry. Rappaport also serves on the Washington, D.C. Economic Partnership Board and served as an Entrepreneur in Residence at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Committed to sharing his knowledge and experience as an entrepreneur, in 2010 Rappaport authored “Investing in Retail Properties,” which explains how to structure real estate partnerships for sharing capital appreciation and cash flow. The information contained in the book is the basis for classes he teaches for ICSC’s University of Shopping Centers and Executive Learning Series and as an annual guest instructor at Johns Hopkins, Georgetown, American and George Mason universities.
